Best and Worst States to Retire

WalletHub recently looked at all the states to determine which were the best and which were the worst to retire in. To determine a ranking, WalletHub looked at some key factors;

  • Affordability - the cost of living, tax-friendliness, the annual cost of adult day health care
  • Quality of Life - share of population aged 65 or older, elderly food insecurity, access to public transportation, mildness of weather, activities & attractions
  • Health Care - family medicine physicians per capita, dentists per capita, top-rated geriatrics hospitals, life expectancy

After looking at all this data, and more, WalletHub ranked the 50 states from 'best' to retire in to 'worse', and here's where Michigan shook out - 21st place. Which is just on the 'best' side of the cusp.

Michigan ranks 27th in affordability, 14th in quality of life, and 32nd in health care.
