Who Exactly Is The Most Famous Person From Michigan?
Michigan is the home to many celebrities of all sorts. We've brought the world some of the most famous musicians, actors and innovators. But when it comes to "the most famous" person, it can be debated as to what makes someone the "most famous".
Is it this person who made the most money? Or maybe the name that comes up most in the average household? Maybe it's the person who brought the most love the mitten state.
No matter what you personal definition of famous may be, Michigan has given the world some greats. A career search website called Zippia.com posted a list of each state's most famous native, and I think they missed the mark.
Here are some of the greats from Michigan, and the person who made the top of the list.
Rock 'n Roll never forgets, and you've got to be crazy if you've forgotten one of the greatest musicians of all time is originally from Detroit.
Originally from Birmingham, MI, David Spade made his mark on comedy in the 90's when he joined the cast of SNL and made his mark with several movies alongside the late Chris Farley. While David doesn't speak of Michigan often, we're still proud of him.
Originally from Farmington Hills, MI, Elizabeth Berkley made us proud as Jessie from Saved by the Bell. But she didn't stop there, she showed us she had what it takes to wow us in Showgirls. But, this Michigan native didn't top the list either.
While he lives and rocks out in Nashville these days, the Romeo, Mi native was known as Bob Ritchie when he was living here. He frequently makes the news with his political views (love 'em or leave 'em) and has topped the charts for decades now even if he's living a little further south on I-65 these days.
This small Michigander made a big splash in Austin Powers when he played the beloved mini-me. And while he made a lot of appearances over the years, it wasn't enough to help him top this list.
Arguably one of the most famous Michiganders came from Royal Oak, and made his mark by becoming a horror movie icon with is portrayal of Ash in Evil Dead. While he's still making movies, TV Shows and taking his time out on the road at comic cons, he still didn't top the list.
This singer and actor was born in Detroit, but he didn't stay long. His family moved to California when he was seven. While he’s most famous for his duet with former wife Cher, The two also shared the stage on “The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour” in the early 70s.
So who made the top of the list?
Terry Crews is the most famous person from Michigan
You may find yourself thinking "Uh, what?!" but, according to Zippia, Terry Crews tops the list of people most likely to be known from Michigan and honestly when you lay out his amazing accomplishments, it's easy to see why. He started playing football for West Michigan University before moving to the NFL and playing for the Washington Redskins, LA Rams and others. After an impressive NFL run, he turned to acting by playing both Terry in Brooklyn Nine Nine, but also taking a hosting role at America's Got Talent.
Terry has an incredible list of accomplishments under his belt, on top of being Time Magazine's Person of the Year in 2017 for his role in standing up and telling his story during the #MeToo movement's initial start.
Terry makes Michigan proud, and while it's debatable who is the "most famous" in any scenario, Terry has earned the title without a doubt.
