"You still haven't got yours yet? I got mine a while back."

Yup. I've been hearing that for a while now.

Mom and dad got theirs. Most of my friends. It's actually harder to run into someone who hasn't gotten round two of the $600 stimulus payments.

I got the first one. They did it direct deposit.

So what's the hold up?

Let's start with where everyone can go to find out about their payments.

And you can check the status of your payment online with GET MY PAYMENT.

You enter you social, your date of birth, and your address. Mind you, it's the address that they have on file for you.

I moved this past summer so I had to enter my old address.

Here's what the IRS said about my Payment #2 Status:

We scheduled your payment to be mailed on January 6, 2021 to the address we have on file for you.

We will mail you a letter with additional information on this payment.

If you need additional help or do not receive your payment, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Wait...mailed? Because for Payment #1 Status they said this:

We scheduled your payment to be deposited on April 15, 2020 to the bank account below.

Bank Account Number: ************

If you don't see your payment credited to your account, check with your bank to verify they received it. We will mail you a letter with additional information on this payment.

If you need additional help, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Why would you change the method of payment? And my address changed but not my bank account information. I did owe taxes last time instead of getting a refund so did that have anything to do with it?

Let's throw in the fact that I have moved and have my mail forwarded to me. So did the check or stimulus debit card go to my old address? Was it forwarded to my new address? Or did the post office not forward it to me because it was a federal check?

Because not all post offices forward government checks, notifying the post office that services your old address ensures that your mail will be forwarded, but not necessarily your refund check.

To change your address with the IRS, you may complete a Form 8822.pdfChange of Address. (Turbo Tax)

So I have to submit a change of address form to the IRS?

And then I read an article that syas my downloading and submitting of forms is just beginning.

I might have to do a PAYMENT TRACE with the IRS.

You'll need to request a Payment Trace if the Get May Payment portal shows that your payment was issued, but you haven't received it within these timeframes:

  • 5 days since the deposit date in Get my Payment and your bank says they haven't received it

  • 4 weeks since it was mailed by check to a standard address

  • 6 weeks since it was mailed and you have a forwarding address on file with the local post office

  • 9 weeks since it was mailed and you have a foreign address (CNET)

Forms and phone numbers are AVAILABLE HERE.

The outstanding part about all of this is I already printed and sent in the change of address notification.

I'm going to have to wait about 4 weeks to see if the payment makes it to me at the new address before I take action.

And when I do, there's more forms to print and send back.

Oh, and then I get to file income taxes soon too.

Yay.
