What’s Been Happening At College Towne Apartments, Lansing
When Where You Live Becomes THE BAD PART OF TOWN
I think everyone is familiar with the apartments near Jolly and Dunckel. Most people definitely know about College Towne. When I first moved to Lansing, that's where I lived. Even though I wasn't a college student, it was relatively close to where I worked. Every time I had someone over, they had memories of the place. They had either lived there or partied there.
I was there for almost three years and moved out around June/July of 2020. I can't say that I had too many problems. Of course some loud neighbors, a fair amount of smoking going on if you catch my drift, and shared/community laundry rooms are the worst. Maybe some fireworks.
Nothing crazy.
But recently, things at College Town have been getting a little out of control. Violent maybe? An increase in incidents? Or has this been something that's been happening there all along?
Let's Just Review The Events of The Past Few Months
We'll go backwards and you can make your own decisions.
Let's start with a fire that took place early this morning (June 23rd, 2021).
From WILX and Mallory Andersen take a listen to the audio below.
Approximately a week ago to the day, June 16th, a 17-year old was shot multiple times and later died from his wounds.
Let's go back to July of 2020 where there was a party and at least 5 people got shot.
According to WILX and police reports five people were shot but none sustained life threatening injuries. And at least one has been released from the hospital.

Let's go back to December of 2019 where there was a heavy police presence amid speculation of a hostage situation.
According to WILX, the police presence in the area was due to a call made by a young woman early Sunday morning stating that she thought her ex-boyfriend had broken into her apartment.
Lansing Police Chief Daryl Green told WILX that while hiding in her closet, an unidentified 20-year-old woman told police that she believed her former boyfriend was armed.

This used to be a DTN property but it is now run by Hunter Lansing.
I'm just wondering if this has always been a bad part of town or is this just now happening.
