What Does it Take to Catch Chinook Salmon in Lake Michigan?
What does it take to catch Chinook Salmon in Lake Michigan? I have no idea, that's why we're going to learn this together.
My wife and I order salmon from Kroger every Sunday when we go grocery shopping and it got me thinking about people who love to fish for salmon on the Great Lakes.
One of those people is a guy by the name of Luis R. Martinez. I do know that many fishermen catch salmon in Lake Michigan and they do it all the time.
According to mlive.com:
A massive Chinook salmon has been caught in Lake Michigan, setting a record for the largest such fish caught in the state..
Martinez, who is 19, is the guy that caught that massive salmon on Saturday, Aug. 7. He caught the fish off Big Sable Point in Mason County and it was a big one. It weighed 47.86 pounds and was 47.5 inches long.
Here's the best part courtesy of mlive.com:
The fish struck Martinez's line about 7 a.m. After about a half-hour struggle, the fish landed in the boat around 7:30 a.m. Martinez was using a Moonshine Spoon-Raspberry Carbon lure when the salmon struck.
I wouldn't know the first thing about catching a giant massive Chinook salmon, but I would be willing to give it a try. You can charter a fishing boat on Lake Michigan from a professional fisherman, who would most likely be able to help me in my quest to hook salmon.
Okay now, I think I'm ready to charter a fishing boat on Lake Michigan as long as I have someone helping me and I have one of those Moonshine Spoon-Raspberry Carbon lures. I think this would be quite the adventure if not anything else.
