University of Michigan to Require COVID-19 Booster
The University of Michigan will now require the COVID-19 booster.
On Friday, December 17th, the University of Michigan announced some updates to the COVID-19 protocols for staff, students, and faculty. With the winter term of 2022 approaching and the omicron variant present at the Ann Arbor campus, the university will be requiring all staff and students to get a COVID-19 booster shot.
What are the details of the COVID-19 booster shot requirement?
All staff, students, and faculty will be required to get the COVID-19 booster shot by February 4th, 2022. This requirement will stand for the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses, along with Michigan Medicine. If a staff, student, or faculty member is not eligible for a booster, they will be required to get one as soon as they do become eligible.
What other expectations and protocols will be in place at the start of the next semester?
When students in the residence halls return after the Christmas break, they will be required to take a COVID-19 test through the Community Sampling and Tracking Program. The university also strongly encourages that all students, staff, and faculty get tested when they return to campus as well.
Face masks are also expected to be worn by students, regardless of vaccination status, in all common areas of the residence halls. Face masks are also required while indoors on campus and on U-M transportation.
The University of Michigan is not the only college to require a booster shot. Michigan State University also made similar updates to the COVID-19 protocols on Friday as well.
