A Legendary Lansing Bar Is Making Its Comeback
Over the years, Lansing has seen some beloved places close their doors. COVID made things even tougher in 2020.
And while we don't always get to see some of our favorite places reopen, it seems that there's one place that is... Unicorn Bar!
Unicorn Bar (as it's now known) in Old Town has been a beloved local favorite for years. While some remember this place as a dive bar that got its start in 1983, others remember it as the Unicorn Lounge that got some major changes in 2017.
The Major Transformation of Unicorn Lounge in 2017
Back in 2017, The Gillespie Group purchased the property after longtime owner, Tommy Malvetis, passed away. At that time, the Unicorn underwent "Lansing's First Extreme Dive Bar makeover" and received many changes, including new floors, windows, paint, lights, furniture, facade, as well as an updated sound system and more.
Sadly, Unicorn Lounge closed during COVID and remained shuttered for years... until now.
Unicorn Bar Is Preparing to Reopen
It appears that the Unicorn Bar is under new ownership and getting ready to reopen!

The owners say they've been busy making some upgrades to the space and they're excited to welcome "old friends and new faces" to Unicorn Bar. You can expect pool tables, live music, cold drinks, and good vibes.
When Will Unicorn Bar Reopen?
At this time, there's no word on an exact opening date, but we can count on it happening soon. A post on Unicorn Bar's Facebook page says the grand opening is expected to take place sometime in July.
If you've missed this beloved fixture of Lansing's past, get ready for it to open soon!
