Two Michigan Cities Have Been Named ‘Snowiest’ In US Over The Last 30 Years
There's no denying that living in Michigan has to come with some sort of love of the snow, or you're going to be miserable most of the year. And while large amounts of snowfall aren't unique to the mitten state, we're one of the best places in the US to find the white stuff.
The Old Farmer's Almanac recently compiled their data to find which cities in the US receive the most snowfall on average annually. One Michigan city was named the snowiest in the US, as well as another 'summer destination' making the top 10.
Which City in Michigan is the Snowiest in America?
Snow lovers, you'll need to head north to the mouth of where two great lakes meet to the town of Sault Ste. Marie
This UP town is the queen of lake effect snow, seeing over 115 inches of snow a year on average. So far this season, they've seen 83 inches of snow which is just slightly below average for them. However, their snowiest season in 1995-96 saw over 200 inches of snow falling in the city!
However, if you're a snow-lover who would rather stay below the Mackinac bridge, another Michigan town made the top ten: Muskegon.
While Muskegon is generally considered a summer getaway destination, they're also commonly hit by the dreaded great lake snow effect. On average, Muskegon sees 79.3 inches annually.
Other Michigan cities that made the list include Grand Rapids with 74.6 inches, Flint with 49.9 inches, and Detroit, averaging 43 inches a year.
