Three Northern Michigan Resorts Named ‘Best In The Midwest’
Travel + Leisure magazine released its list of the best resorts in the Midwest, and three Michigan resorts landed in the top 10.
Mackinac Island Lands Two Of The Three Resorts On The List
Travel + Leisure polls its readers every year to share their best experiences travelling throughout the world, and then they break it down by regions.
When it comes to the Midwest, I may be partial, but I believe Michigan offers more beauty than our neighboring states. That being said, the magazine id take ALL of the Midwest under consideration:
The Midwest is home to some of the most beautiful scenery in the United States, from the shores of Lake Michigan to the caves of Missouri to the unspoiled forests and woods of Wisconsin and everything in between. The best resorts in the Midwest put all of this natural splendor at travelers' fingertips.
The list for the best resorts in the Midwest region, featured three well known Michigan resorts in the top 10, two of which are on Mackinac Island.
Hotel Iroquois On Mackinac Island Lands At Number 8 On The List
Located at 7485 Main Street, just off of Biddle Point, the Iroquois Hotel has a comfort and charm that offer a different island vibe than the more well known Grand Hotel. The Iroquois comes off as more of a bed-and-breakfast than a hotel.
A seasonal stunner, our classically sophisticated and intimate hotel captivates first-time visitors and longtime guests with a singular combination of individually decorated guest rooms and suites, exceptional dining, and an unmatched waterfront location.
Some Places Are Just Majestic AND Classic, Like The Grand Hotel -- #6 In The Midwest
There's a reason why the Grand Hotel, an island landmark since 1887, repeatedly shows up on lists like this one. It offers timeless elegance and grace, much like the movie 'Somewhere In Time', which was filmed here in 1980. As Travel + Leisure notes:
...the 388-room resort is a perennial summer favorite for its bygone atmosphere — horse drawn carriage and all. "The combination of being a National Historic Landmark with its luxurious accommodations makes it unsurpassed!" said a reader. Another noted that the "views from the terrace bar are the best in the Midwest."
The Highest Rated Michigan Resort Is The Hotel Walloon on Walloon Lake At Number 3
Located just south of the village of Walloon Lake along M-75 (South Shore Drive), just off US 131 in Northern Lower Michigan, the Hotel Walloon traces its roots back to the lumbering era when it was built in 1900. The lake was a favorite stomping ground of northern Michigan legend Ernest Hemingway, who found it not only a sportsmen's paradise, but a peaceful respite from the world.
The Hotel Walloon scored 93.75 on the magazines scale of 100.
