Stephanie McCoy’s Top 5 Country Songs About Tequila
Sure, there are TONS of great songs in country music about beer. But...there has also been some good songs over the years that skip right over the beer and go straight for the bottle of tequila. If you didn't know, according to the National Day Calendar, today is National Tequila Day. In honor of the big event, I came up with a list of my Top 5 Favorite Country Songs that talk about tequila. These songs might be some great options for you to listen to if you decide to celebrate National Tequila Day today.
Hmm...now that I mention it, it's Friday. It's the Detroit Tigers season opener tonight in Cincinnati. It's 2020. I think it might be time to head to the grocery store... (:
Kenny Chesney released this song in 2011. The song was co-written by Deana Carter and Matraca Berge, who actually both recorded their own versions. However, it was Kenny Chesney's version that featured Grace Potter that ended up performing well on the charts. The song was also nominated for a couple of Grammy awards including Best County Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
We're going a little old school with this one. Tracy Byrd released "10 Rounds With Jose Cuervo" back in 2002. The song reached Number One on what used to be known as the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks and is now known as the Hot Country Songs chart.
Dan + Shay released "Tequila" in 2018. It went to number one for them on both the Billboard Country Airplay chart and the Hot Country Songs chart. It won them a Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. It also won in both the Single of the Year and Song of the Year categories at the 54th Acadamey of Country Music Awards.
We're going really old school for this one...like back to 1983. (If I had a nickel for every time I've sung this song in my head when I've seen a bottle of tequila at the grocery store...) The song went to the #1 spot on the country charts for Shelly West.
And finally, this is another song that I catch myself singing in my head when I hear the word 'tequila' or see it at the store. It was released in August 2005 and went to #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Here's a weird side note for you...apparently a lot of people think that Kenny Chesney sang the song because when you search for it on YouTube, it automatically fills it in as Kenny Chesney as the artist. Not so much...
