Governor Whitmer has declared a state of emergency for Ionia County to help it recover from recent flooding in Portland and other communities that were affected by winter weather. The declaration was made on Wednesday and according to Michigan.gov, it makes available "all state resources in cooperation with local response and recovery efforts in the designated area." The state of emergency declaration will also allow "Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (MSP/EMHSD) to coordinate state efforts above and beyond what MSP/EMHSD has already been doing in conjunction with local agencies."

Flooding caused by ice jams in the Grand River has been affecting the Portland area for over a week. However, there might be a bit of good news as the City of Portland posted on their Facebook page yesterday that the "river levels were remaining stable with only minor fluctuations reported."
