We might be in the midst of cold temperatures and inches of snow, but now is the time of year when Michiganders start thinking about their summer camping plans.

Michigan campgrounds tend to fill up pretty fast. Especially because people like to plan ahead, what with needing time off work and what not. That, and state parks open up their campgrounds for booking six months ahead.

If you planned on doing some Michigan camping this summer, there's going to be one Mid-Michigan campground that won't be available.

Thankfully, it's not closing permanently, it's just closing for the summer for upgrades. Sleepy Hollow and other state parks across Michigan are closing for upgrades. On Sleepy Hollow alone, they're going to spend about $5.4 million dollars upgrading things across the board, including;

  • replacing the show building
  • paving campground roads
  • updating the beach building
  • adding water and sewer hookups for RVs

While the upgrades are definitely a good thing, there are some worries about the closure of the campground for an entire season.

Laingsburg is a small town near Sleepy Hollow that gets a lot of foot traffic from the campground. But with the campground closed for the season, "city officials are bracing for impact."

Hopefully the upgrades go smoothly and all the businesses in Laingsburg stay afloat.
