Cornhole for Kids! Help Santa’s First Responders in Lansing This Weekend
A Lansing-area charity is supporting local children battling cancer with a fun community event this weekend, and there's still time to be part of it.
Santa's First Responders is a 501(c)(3) organization primarily composed of current and retired First Responders from around the Lansing area. The charity has been supplying holiday cheer to kids and families since 1990. Over the last three years, its community involvement has expanded to the UM Sparrow Children's Cancer Wing via first responder parades, gift givings, outings (including a night with the Lansing Lugnuts last May) and hospital visitations. This year the organization will also be offering a "Santa's Wish" for one child battling cancer.

The 3rd Annual Santa's First Responders Cornhole Tournament and Fundraiser is this Saturday, June 15, at Marketplace on the Green in Meridian Township, directly behind Meridian Mall. Registration starts at 3pm, and bags fly at 4pm. It's $60 per team (individual participants may register for $30), and teams may pre-register using the Scoreholio app.
Santa's First Responders President Gayelord Mankowski says you don't have to be a cornhole player to support the event.
"We have a silent auction with prizes that will blow your mind," Mankowski says. "An Airbnb in Interlochen, countless bottles of like high-end bourbon... hunting guns and beyond, it's going to be crazy."
The cornhole event will also feature multiple raffles and all kinds of contests, including a hot venison eating contest, and live entertainment from Frog & The Beeftones.
