East Lansing is about to see another change in its business landscape. And this time, it will be a positive gain.

A New Business is Coming to East Lansing

Grand Rapids-based Terra Firma Bouldering Co. is headed to East Lansing.

Terra Firma Bouldering Co. is an indoor rock climbing gym that's working on opening its second location inside the former Foods For Living building in East Lansing.

Previously, Foods For Living had been open for 27 years before closing in June 2024. Since then, the building has been vacant. Now construction is being done on the space to transform it into a rock climbing gym.

What Makes Bouldering Different?

Terra Firma Bouldering Co. isn't rock climbing how you might be visualizing — with the harness and ropes and pulleys. Instead, bouldering is described as "rock climbing in its simplest form. No ropes, no harness, all you need is yourself, your comrades, chalk, shoes, and a cushy pad to catch your falls".

When Does Terra Firma Bouldering Co. Expect to Open in East Lansing?

There's no exact opening date at this time. But, they do hope to be open sometime this April.

When it does open, Terra Firma will have 6,000 square feet of climbing terrain. Plus, there are certain sections that are able to be reset, so the climbing terrain will be changing weekly.

Whether you're a first-timer, a frequent climber, or a pro, it seems that all skill levels are welcomed here. You can even take classes in group or private settings.

10 Things Every Lansing Kid Did Growing Up In The 90's

It's crazy to think that the 90's were 35 years ago. Is that now considered retro, or just classic? For comparison, 1999 is now as far in the past as 1974 was in 1999. I don't like that... let me grab my Capri Sun and have a moment please.
