Changing seasons are part of the reason why I like Michigan.

Spring is my least favorite season of the year. It's damp and muddy. Fall is my favorite season. I love going to football games, the color change and Halloween. Winter is what it is. We don't get a ton of snow, it's bitter cold sometimes and I don't like that. That brings me to summer.

You have to admit that summer is awesome in Michigan. Anyone living in Michigan can get to a body of water, depending on size, within an hour or two. Getting to one of the Great Lakes is only a few hour drive from any location. Heading out to enjoy summer is one of the true pleasures I sometimes take for granted. From fishing and golfing to boating and camping, we've got it pretty good here in Michigan.

During the summer months, road construction can be frustrating. I've been driving in Michigan for nearly 33 years. Over that time I've accepted the fact that there's going to be a lot of road construction being done. The crews can't do it in the winter, so we have to deal with it.

To help me navigate some of the construction in the Lansing area, I take a completely different route. For example, I navigate the closure on Okemos Road and the crazy traffic on Dobie Road by utilizing Meridian Road. If you know the area, it's easy to do. If you are new to the area, look at your map and you'll most likely find a better route to avoid construction traffic.

I respect all of the crews that work on our roads. Work needs to be done and these are the men and women that are doing it. They are doing their job; it's not their fault that there are traffic backups. A lot of these workers have families that they would like to go home to at night.

Here's some sad info about work zones from MDOT.

Most work zone crashes are caused by inattentive or distracted drivers. Speeding, like driving too fast for conditions, is a leading cause of fatal work zone crashes. More work zone crashes occurred in daytime compared to nighttime. Fatal crashes occurred more often during the months of May through September. Most often, drivers or their passengers are killed or injured in work zone crashes.

There are multiple road construction projects happening throughout the Lansing and Mid-Michigan areas. The MDOT and Ingham County websites have good info.
