Rest of Michigan Is Finally On My Level with Loving this Lansing Area Beer
If you're looking for "the hottest Michigan craft beer of the summer", MLive says, look no further than Williamston!
Williamston is home to Old Nation Brewery, the birthplace of M-43; a New England-style IPA, and this summer's hottest beer! What makes this IPA so different is that while it's made with plenty of hops, it has practically no bitterness. And, it's "purposely hazy or cloudy, which gives you a smooth or creamy mouthfeel."
This beer is popular right now that places are selling out in a flash. One of the owners, a Travis Fritts, says they began selling about "80 barrels a week" in early March, and now they make about 200 barrels a week. Even with the increase, Fritts says, "It's not anywhere near enough."
I had the opportunity to enjoy this hazy and fruity New England-style IPA not too long ago, and I loved it! In fact, I got to enjoy it in the most Michigan way possible... on a pontoon, on a Michigan lake, over Fourth of July weekend. I was hesitant to try it at first because when I hear 'IPA', I hear 'hops', and I'm just not a fan of the bitterness. I much prefer a wheat and/or fruit beer; occasionally pilsners, hefeweizens, and shandys. But, M-43 is deliciously fruity, and I really enjoyed it! I would just say that if you're a fan of the bitterness that hops brings, you won't find that in this IPA. Read more about it, here.
