If you have any travel plans for Independence Day, you're not alone because a record number of Americans are expected to travel this 4th of July.  According to numbers released this week by AAA, nationally, about 49 million are expected to travel by automobile for the 4th and here in Michigan, almost 1.7 million are expected to take a vacation over the holiday. Triple A says that the Michigan numbers are up by about 4.4% compared to last year. So, why are so many people traveling by automobile this year? Well, you can blame the lower gas prices. According to Triple A, gas prices are 20 cents less year-over-year and expected to drop even lower into the summer.

If you're not doing any driving this 4th of July, but instead will be flying, you can expect a lot of fellow plane passengers, too. AAA says that almost 72,000 Michiganders will be traveling by plane this 4th of July, which is about 5% more than last year. Click here to find out more about the 4th of July traveling numbers.
