Potterville’s Joe Davis Joins John Smoltz in FOX-TV Booth In 2022

Potterville native Joe Davis (pictured), who is the TV voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers, was named as the lead TV voice for FOX Sports coverage of Major League Baseball on Friday morning.

He will join baseball Hall of Famer (and Lansing Waverly HS grad) John Smoltz in the booth this season.  Davis replaces longtime FOX voice Joe Buck, who signed a deal with ESPN to call Monday Night Football with Troy Aikman last month.

Davis has called Major League Baseball and college football for FOX in the last few years.  Davis, who's 34 years old, played quarterback for Potterville HS in the early 2000's before heading to college and beginning his broadcasting career.

Joe replaced the legendary Vin Scully on the Dodgers TV games in 2017.  And he's been with FOX Sports since 2014.

John Smoltz, the baseball Hall of Famer gave his thoughts about another Lansing-area man joining him in the booth for the next few years:

“Having worked with Joe before, finding our chemistry in the booth is already well underway and I’m looking forward to our partnership over the next several years, I had the opportunity to work with the very best at FOX Sports in Joe Buck, and I feel fortunate to get to continue with another exceptionally talented ‘Joe’ in Joe Davis.”

Smoltz, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015, has been in the FOX booth since 2014.  And he also currently works for the Major League Baseball Network (MLB Network).

Davis talked about his promotion to lead play-by-play broadcaster for FOX:

“If you had asked me when I was 10 what I wanted to do when I grew up, I would’ve told you ‘Call the World Series.’ So when I say this is a dream-come-true, I really mean it.,”
