It hasn't been a fun morning for some Portland residents. According to a press release issued early this morning by the Portland City Manager, around midnight the Grand River began to flood over the banks due to an ice jam. That water was approaching several homes on Water Street along the Grand River in Portland, so officials decided to evacuate the residents in that area. According to a report from WILX, about 50 residents were ordered to evacuate. A FLOOD WARNING was issued by the National Weather Service for parts of Ionia County, including the Portland area. That warning is in effect until 1:15pm on Thursday, February 7th, 2019.
