Police In Mid-Michigan Warn Of Phone Scam
Officials with the Ingham County Sheriff's Office say that the 'bail scam' has returned to the area. Police are warning residents to be aware of a scam in the area where the callers state they are friends or family of the recipient and are being held by the Ingham County Sheriff's Office and claim they need money to avoid major criminal charges. Officials say that a phone number associated with the scam may come up on your caller ID as 517-676-2431.
Ingham County officials are reminding residents that the Sheriff's Office does NOT make phone calls, send e-mails, or faxes to collect money for warrants, taxes or other court costs and they also say they would never request any payment in gift cards. If you receive one of these calls, DO NOT send money, purchase gift cards, make wire transfers, or give out credit card information to the callers.
