This year has been a struggle for a lot of us and we've been trying to find more ways to give back. According to Feeding America, over 50 million Americans have experienced food shortage because of COVID-19 and about 17 million of those Americans are children.

Did you know that volunteering has several health benefits? The Mayo Health Clinic reports that giving back can decrease the risk of depression, reduce stress levels, teach us valuable skills and help us create new relationships. There are tons of ways to give back whether it's volunteering at a local food bank or donating blood.

Here's some places to volunteer in the Lansing area

  1. Greater Lansing Food Bank
  2. Volunteers of America
  3. Haven House
  4. The Davies Project
  5. City Rescue Mission of Lansing
  6. Volunteers of America Michigan
  7. CSL Plasma
  8. Mid Michigan Environmental Action Council

If you've been looking to give back to your community this year, there's no better time then the present. The holidays are quickly approaching and many of us are in a tight spot which can cause a lot of stress and anxiety. If you've been having a hard time getting into the holiday spirit because you're in a funk, try giving back. PubMed says that volunteering helps adults identify a stronger sense of purpose and increases your over happiness.
