It is always a little sad when a business that has been in the neighborhood so long closes or it moves on to a new location. So after more then 50 years Park’s Furniture has closed its doors. That is a long time for a business to thrive.

According to fox47news.com it was time to shut down Parks Furniture after such a great run in the community.

The city of Lansing ordered the store to close in November after inspectors detected “imminent safety issues.” The violations included blocked exits and an unsafe entrance to the bathroom, according to Brian McGrain, the city’s director of economic development and planning

Neil Park who is the owner of Parks and five other properties on the 900 block of West Saginaw could not be reached to chat about the closing,  But now that the furniture store is closed a lot of the folks living in the area say it’s an opportunity to get the block on the right track to upgrades.

The building was built over a hundred years ago before the big depression and prohibition. If the walls could talk, huh? In the 1950s there was a small but thriving community. There was a hardware store, a grocery store, a pharmacy and Toolan's Delicatessen, which is still in open and also opened in the '50s.

The good folks now in the area are hoping something good comes from the closing and we will sure keep you posted on new development's.

Has something closed in your neighborhood that you miss or that affected the community?
