Officials Warn of Coronavirus Phone Scam in Michigan
Scammers will take advantage of every situation possible and people that are concerned about the coronavirus appear be their latest target. According to a Facebook post from the Mid-Michigan District Health Department, officials say that they are starting to get calls from residents in Michigan who have gotten phone calls from someone claiming to be a nurse who is following up with recent test results. Officials say that the person on the receiving end of the call is told by the phone scammer that they tested positive for COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and that they need to provide their credit card information so that antibiotics can be shipped to them.
Of course, this is a SCAM and we don't want anyone to fall for it. Please keep in mind that 1) if a nurse calls with test results, he/she will NOT ask for credit card information and 2) antibiotics are not used to treat COVID-19.
