Montgomery Gentry Release GhostTunes Bundle to Benefit Cancer Research
Montgomery Gentry recently released a new single called 'Headlights,' and now they've announced a very special partnership with GhostTunes, Garth Brooks' newly-launched digital music service.
The duo -- whose hits include 'If You Ever Stop Loving Me,' 'Something to Be Proud Of,' 'Lucky Man' and more -- have been selected as the inaugural artists for the GhostTunes Gives Back program, which supports artists' charitable efforts.
Their campaign is humorously titled Check Your Headlights, and all proceeds from bundle sales will go to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, an initiative of the American Cancer Society. Each Check Your Headlights bundle includes a copy of the new single and a Check Your Headlights T-shirt. Bundles with both one and two T-shirts are available here.
As a cancer survivor, it's a topic that's especially close to Eddie Montgomery's heart.
"I'm hoping one of these days that we can beat cancer, and it'll be just a thing of the past," he tells Taste of Country. "You can get a shot or whatever, and never have to worry about it again. It seems nowadays -- you know, you used to just hear about it in the elderly people, but a lot more now you're hearing about it in kids and all the way up. I don't know why it is, or what, because our medicine has come a far, far way, but it just seems like it keeps getting bigger, and you can't beat it."
In addition to money, Montgomery hopes to raise awareness with the campaign.
"It's such a fast-paced world now, but you need to take time out and go get your boobies checked up," he says. "That's the only way I know how to say it. Just to raise more awareness -- it seems like now, you hardly meet anybody that ain't touched by the big C word."
'Headlights' is the first single from a new album the duo are in the final stages of mixing and mastering. The project is their first under the auspices of a new deal with Blaster Records.
"I can't say enough about Blaster," Montgomery enthuses. "Them boys right there, they're just like us -- they like to have a lot of fun, and they're not scared. They want you to be you, and I love that. They're not trying to change you to be the Nashville norm. Be who the hell you are, and let's go get it."
The new album is their first with producer Michael Knox, whose credits include Jason Aldean and Trace Adkins.
"It's so much fun being in the studio being in the studio with all the musicians and Michael Knox," Montgomery adds. "It's just a blast. It's a lot of fun, and I think that comes out on this CD, in the music."
