It seems that more stores are choosing to stay closed on Thanksgiving Day. According to BestBlackFriday.com, some of the bigger stores in Michigan that will be closed on Thanksgiving Day this year include Costco, Sam’s Club, Menards, Marshalls, Home Depot and Lowe's. So far, there are over 100 regional and national stores on their list that will be closed for Thanksgiving Day 2018. Other stores in Michigan that are on the list include Barnes and Noble, Burlington, TJ Maxx, PetSmart, Staples, Office Depot, IKEA, Hobby Lobby and many more.

According to USA Today, last year there were only a few last minute changes to the list. GameStop actually decided to open on Thanksgiving Day (they had been closed on Thanksgiving for several years) and SteinMart and Shoe Carnival decided to close for the holiday (they had been open for several years). Also, last year some of the stores that DID stay open on Thanksgiving actually opened a little earlier. USA Today reports that last year, J.C. Penney started its sale at 2 pm on Thanksgiving and Kohl's, Macy's and Best Buy started their sales at 5 p.m.
