More cases of the flu are being reported in Michigan. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention puts out a weekly map of the current flu activity in the United States. According to the latest map from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from the week ending on December 28th, 2019, Michigan is now seeing 'widespread' flu activity. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says that 'widespread' activity means that outbreaks of influenza cases have been confirmed in over half the regions of the state.

Here are some tips from the CDC on how to avoid getting the flu:

  • The CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against influenza and its potentially serious complications.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • Be sure to wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like flu.
