Michigan’s Country Music Scene: Who Is Jessie Campbell?
Michigan's well-known for its Motown sound, with performers like Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson hailing from the state. Some of the world's biggest pop, rock and rap stars are from Michigan too - such as Madonna, Bob Seger, Alice Cooper and Eminem.
A handful of Michiganders have seen some moderate success on the country charts. Josh Gracin, Ryan Hurd and Ingrid Andress have all topped the charts at least once. Trevor Rosen of the group Old Dominion may be the most successful Michigan product in country music today.

About Michigan Country Artist Jessie Campbell
Jessie Campbell, who makes his home in Sturgis, Michigan, says music has been his passion for a very long time.
"As a young boy I was really drawn to entertaining people," Campbell says. "I have always had a passion for entertainment of all kinds. What really struck me was music. Music just meant so much to me. Music has always spoke to me, even from a very young age."
Campbell says he was raised in the country, and a lot of that is reflected in the songs he sings and writes. "A lot of times for me it’s a thought or something that has happened in life," he says. "A lot of times I know what I have been through or (am) thinking is common for a lot of people."
An energetic crowd becomes infectious.
"I love a great performance where people are singing along with me and dancing and just having a blast. Our shows are a time for you to leave regular life behind and just enjoy yourself. I always love connecting with my fans and making sure they are having fun too. A lot of times I will go out into the audience and I even let them take the mic and sing along."

Campbell, who lists opening for country superstar Travis Tritt among his career highlights thus far, is currently in talks with a Nashville-based label that would help expose his music to an even broader audience.
He admits that living life as a musician isn't always easy, but he wouldn't have it any other way. His advice to other aspiring Michigan musicians? "Music is very, very hard, but if it is something you want - never give up. Network. Speak with other artists, do shows with other artists, ask questions! You will never know how people keep going if you don’t ask."
At the end of the day, Campbell says everything he does is for the fans.
"I love to sing to people and entertain them. I want to make them happy and dance or let them know that I can understand life can be difficult at times. My fans are the most important thing to me. And putting on a great show for them is my top priority."
