According to a recent report from the Lansing State Journal, killer shrimp, red swamp crayfish and five other water-dwelling animals are officially banned from Michigan. Officials say that the invasive species are threatening the balance of life in our lakes. Let me just say, I had no idea that killer shrimp, red swamp crayfish, etc. were even near Michigan. (I probably should have paid closer attention in school.) And another thing that I learned while reading this report is that it's also illegal to possess these animals. Umm...what? I've heard of people with strange pets...but killer shrimp?? Anyway, to find out what other species have been banned (like the yabby), click here.
