On the final day of the 2019 legislative session, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) signed a series of bills that will make sports betting legal in the state of Michigan.

According to the Michigan Department of Treasury, the new bills would bring in $19 million in new revenue to use for schools and the state's first responders (fire, ambulance, etc.).

The bills could be put into effect in time for the NCAA Basketball Tournaments coming up in March.  Michigan becomes the 20th state in the Union to legalize sports betting, the 19th to legalize it since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the federal ban in 2018.
