Memorial Day is a day to take time to reflect, appreciate and honor every man and woman that has given the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

Freedom is not free. Someone gave their life for you and me. We enjoy our freedoms as U.S. Citizens because of the willingness of these brave men and women. I am grateful for them and their sacrifices.

Memorial Day is a holiday—as it should be—where I give thanks for my freedom and remember our fallen military personnel. I have two boys growing up at home. We talk about the sacrifices that men and women have made for our country and why it’s important to understand what that means and to always be respectful towards any military personnel. When we have gone to Memorial Day parades in the past, the fellas understand why we are attending the event and enjoy standing and applauding.

When I started researching Memorial Day events for this article, I expected dozens of events that I could highlight for you to attend. Unfortunately, there were not many to share. My theory is that the pandemic really shattered a lot of things, including events.

That doesn’t mean that we can’t get back to doing these events. If you have a vision to celebrate the lives and to honor our fallen servicemen and women, you can pull it off. It starts with an idea.

While you are honoring the fallen this weekend for Memorial Day, please remember to give thanks to the Gold Star Families that have lost a loved one for the United States.
