Maren Morris Shares What Ryan Hurd Said Off-Mic During Their CMT Awards Performance
Repeat duet partners and real-life married couple Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd showcased something brand new on the stage of the 2022 CMT Music Awards, performing a new track off Morris' Humble Quest album called "I Can't Love You Anymore."
Many of the song's lines tap into their real-life love story, such as when Morris sang about "fallin' for a boy from Michigan" (Hurd's home state) and jokingly fanned herself during the line "You're so good lookin' it kinda makes me sick."
At one point, after Morris sang "You like me even when I've been a bitch," Hurd smiled and said something away from the microphone that almost made his wife burst into giggles. Of course, fans were glued to their screens trying to lip-read what he'd said, so Morris offered some clarification about the moment on Twitter.
"For the record, [Hurd] said, 'You're not a bitch, baby,'" she explained on Twitter after the show. "Which made me laugh and almost miss my next lyric.
"I truly can't love you anymore than I do now," she adds, referencing the titular line of the song."
The 2022 CMT Music Awards aired live from Nashville on Monday night (April 11). Morris was a nominee during the show as well as a performer; She was up for Female Video of the Year for her "Circles Around This Town," but Miranda Lambert ultimately won in that category.
Kelsea Ballerini, Anthony Mackie and Kane Brown co-hosted Monday night's show, with Ballerini contributing her portion of the hosting duties from home due to a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. Her quarantine didn't stop her from debuting her new single, "Heartfirst," from her backyard. Meanwhile, Brown performed his Video of the Year-nominated single "One Mississippi."
