Local Love For Westlund’s Apple Market
I legit was running errands on Thursday and going back to work. I was cruising on E. Saginaw headed towards 127. I was hungry and the first thing I thought about getting was some fried chicken from Apple Market. I looped around and next thing I know, I was on Grand River and stopped here.
If you know, you know.
Apple Market is DA BUSINESS!
I love this place. It's your quintessential neighborhood grocery store/market. The store itself makes me wish I lived closer to it. I would go here everyday if I could. I often stop by because of...well there are several reasons.
First off, it says it right there on the sign. Bringing the freshest food to your neighborhood.
And if you want fresh meats, this place is OUT-FREAKIN-STANDING.
The butcher was cutting steaks when I showed up to take pictures.
And they ground their own meats and make their own sausages.
They have so many versions of breakfast sausage and sausage links and flavors and combinations.
Steaks and chicken and...just everything. Everyone needs a good local butcher. These guys are some of the best.
And the friendliest people ever. From the folks in the back to the cashiers to...
The deli counter. I could get into a lot of trouble here. And they have everything from your meats and cheeses to the reason why I stopped by.
Everyone's got their favorite place to go. But I love the chicken from this place. Most of the stuff in their hot case is "bomb". And again, I'm not talking fancy restaurant fair. This is gimme a two piece dark with a couple of sides. And might I suggest either the sour cream and cheddar macaroni salad or Leon's macaroni salad. Or do what I did.
Get both. And it's a neighborhood joint. This only cost like $5 bucks. Nice little lunch or something to tide you over until dinner.
I love local places like this. Great meat department. Great deli. Great hot foods. Great people.
Local. Lansing. I love it.
Next time you're over by Grand River and 127, head west for a minute and stop by.
