Lansing Needs a Restaurant Like This Fancy Hot Dog Place in Mount Pleasant
Lansing has a vast array of different cuisines and dining experiences available. On top of that, East Lansing and the other surrounding areas have numerous delicious restaurants too. However, we do not have a restaurant like Dog Central, and Lansing needs one!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Dog Central, and it was absolutely fantastic. Dog Central is a restaurant located in Mount Pleasant and their specialty is what I like to call, "fancy hot dogs"; basically a hot dog with a bunch of uncommon toppings on them. Of course they have your standard ketchup, mustard, and onions, but they also have wackier toppings like mac 'n cheese, guacamole, and french fries. And speaking of french fries...those were fantastic as well!
You can use your imagination and create "The Whatever Dog", which is a combination of up to six toppings of whatever you'd like to select from the list. Or, you can go with one of their premade dogs. They've got your typical standbys like The Chicago Dog or The Detroit Dog, although they don't specify whether they use Detroit or Flint style chili for the dog. If your taste buds are a bit more adventurous, you could try The Cleveland Po Boy (which has fried Dearborn Polish sausage, french fries, cole slaw, BBQ sauce, and Frank's Red Hot) or The Elote Dog (which has roasted corn, mayo, cotija cheese, chipotle powder, and a lime wedge). Those are a couple of the dogs that my husband and I ordered, and we would both highly recommend!
Overall, I think that "fancy hot dogs" is a restaurant niche that Lansing has yet to fill, and that a place like Dog Central could be just the thing. At one time in the not-so-distant past, there was a restaurant in East Lansing called What Up Dawg that served up similar fancy dogs. Sadly, it is no more. But I have hope for the future!
While I was there I took some pictures, check out the deliciousness for yourself, below. Also, ponder this; are there another other restaurants or cuisines missing from the Lansing line up? Let us know by sending us a message using the station app.
