Lansing-Made Sandwich Named One of the Best in America
Congratulations to the staff at Saddleback BBQ in Lansing as their Rib Sandwich has been named one of "The Best Sandwiches in America" by the Food Network. The rib sandwich was #41 on the list of the "98 most-iconic sandwiches in the United States". If you've never had one, here's a spoiler alert of what you can expect according to the Food Network:
This hulk of a hand-held meal starts with the smoker. The crew at Saddleback cook their baby back ribs for four to six hours in a blend of Michigan hardwoods (white oak, cherry, apple and a touch of hickory). When it's all nice and tender, they debone half racks, place each one on a bun and add housemade pickles and onions with a coating of sweet and savory barbecue sauce.
The Saddleback BBQ wasn't the only Michigan restaurant that made the list.
- The Salami and Cheese Sandwich that's served at Mudgie's Deli & Wine Shop in Detroit was #14 on the list.
- The Whitefish Salad Sandwich at Zingerman's in Ann Arbor came in at #39 on the list.
- The Cudighi that's served at Vango's in Marquette came in at #47. It's named after the homemade spicy Italian sausage and is served with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese on a hard roll.
- The Falafel Pita at the Al-Ameer restaurant in Dearborn was #64 on the list.
