Have you been grocery shopping recently, picked up a piece of produce, and then put it right back down again for fear of cyclospora? Do you hate how much money you're spending at the grocery store?

Do you like supporting local and live in Lansing?

If you find yourself saying yes to any of those questions, but particularly that last one, you should check out Eastside Lansing Food Co-op.

A Local Lansing Grocery Store With Local Roots

Eastside Lansing Food Co-op (ELFCO) is located at 1605 E Kalamazoo in Lansing, and it's basically the answer to all of those up front questions.

  • The produce comes from local growers, giving you another option when you're looking for locally sourced food.
  • You may find some great prices compared with the bigger grocery stores.
  • You're supporting a local business (your neighbors and community) instead of some big box store.

Products from local places like Felzke Farms, Blue Mitten Farms, Hunter Park Farm Hub, Mr. Leslie's Cheesecakes, and more are all available at ELFCO.

ELFCO Needs Lansing's Support

Right now, the co-op could really use your support, too.

In August, ELFCO made a plea for help, asking the community for support to stay open. The co-op has been open for almost 50 years and was losing more money than it was taking in. It needed more customers and members to keep the lights on.

So far, the Lansing community has rallied around this local business, but ELFCO still needs more customers and members to stay afloat.

ELFCO will continue to be open, but on a month-to-month basis, needing to average about $1,200 in sales each day to stay open. This means that we need to support our local business when we can.

You Don't Have to Be an ELFCO Member to Shop

You don't need to be a member to shop at ELFCO. Heck, you don't even need to live in Lansing. You just need to stop by during business hours and do some shopping. However, if you would like to support the food co-op with a membership, you can get a yearly one for $30.

As a shopper at ELFCO, I can happily say that I've enjoyed every delicious purchase I've made there! I've purchased apples, potatoes, zucchini, Mr. Leslie's Cheesecakes, cheese, snacks, and more. I love shopping locally whenever I can because I know when I do, I'm supporting my neighbors.

Next time you need to do some grocery shopping, see what the Eastside Lansing Food Co-op has going on.
