Other Weird Michigan Town Names

If you did not know Michigan has some very interesting (...weird) names for certain towns.

While Hell is definitely one of them, a few more are a little alarming.

Bad Axe

In 1861, Rudolph Papst and George Willis Pack made a camp and found a badly damaged axe.

Papst used "Bad Axe Camp" on a sign that was placed on the main trail of the camp.

Christmas

The town of Christmas, Michigan received its name when a roadside factory that makes holiday gift items started in 1938.

Climax

I wonder if the kids in town say the name of this town.

The town of Climax got its name in 1834 when Judge Caleb Eldred's family found a prairie after they searched for farmland for months.

His son climbed a tree, looked around, and said,

"This caps the climax of everything we saw."

Vulcan

Like Hell was not already enough, we have Vulcan. If you did not know, Vulcan is named after the ancient Roman god of fire.
