Michigan Man Swam Across Lake Michigan To Wisconsin
This was the challenge of a lifetime and we got to experience it in real time!
An ultra swimmer just made the state of Michigan so proud!
Do you know about Jim Dreyer? If not, let me educate you.
Jim Dreyer & HIs Swimming Challenge
Jim Dreyer, also known as 'The Shark,' had a huge goal in mind! He wanted to cross Lake Michigan from Michigan to Wisconsin.
The journey would cover at least 80 MILES in the water and last 72 hours or more WITHOUT sleep!
Insanely incredible, right?!
On Labor Day Monday, Dreyer set off for his expedition just after 6:00 PM in Grand Haven.
The 61-year-old man also had a small inflatable boat that he towed around with his necessary supplies.
While Jim was completing his swimming marathon, Michiganders and various people throughout the country were keeping track of him.
There was a tracker that you could see how he was doing through his expedition.
Previous Lake Michigan Adventures
The Shark is not new to this. He is true to it. In 1998, Dreyer crossed Lake Michigan, starting in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, and ending in Ludington, Michigan.
He attempted to do it three more times but was unsuccessful since 2023.
On August 6th, Dreyer tried again. However, he had trouble with his GPS device, which forced him to give up after 60 miles.
Did The Shark Make It?
Finally, after a 40-hour swim challenge, Jim Dreye announced on his Facebook page that the swim was over.
We are very glad that Jim is safe and sound! He plans to give more updates after his much-deserved "sleep marathon."
