Midwest Electric shared a few steps and tips that you should follow if you find yourself in an unfortunate situation where a power line is down on your car.

In their PSA video featured below, the company wants to make sure people exactly what to do.

  • You should always assume that the wires are live and energized
  • Call 911 immediately!!
  • Do not leave your vehicle!
  • If you see someone coming to your car to help, tell them not to come near the vehicle. You should save a life!

If you are forced from your vehicle because of smoke or a fire, you should do the following:

  • Open the vehicle door
  • Jump down with both feet together. However, do not let your hands touch any part of the vehicle while your feet touch the ground.
  • Shuffle or hop to safety (which is at least 50 feet away)

Here are a few additional tips that you should remember as well!

  • Do not, for any reason, approach or touch a fallen power line! You could be electrocuted.
  • Do not touch any object that is in contact with the power care because the current could travel through the object and into your body.

Michigan drivers should make sure they are familiar with these steps. While it may not happen often, you never know when you or someone else will be in danger.

Saving a life and staying safe is always a priority!
