They don't call it the Great Lake State for nothing. Michigan is what fantastic shorelines and beautiful waterways are all about. If you live here you know just how amazing and beautiful our lakes are, and now the entire country is in on the secret.
Places to Travel, a website created and written by travelers, for travelers, knows that warmer temps are just around the corner and summer plans are underway across the country. They put together a list of the "30 Most Beautiful Lakes to Visit in America" giving those travel enthusiasts a virtual guidebook to must-see locations.
"While the United States is well known for the incredible beaches it has, it also boasts some of the most beautiful lakes in the world! Let’s take a small dip into some of the most beautiful and vast bodies of water you can visit in America", Places to Travel wrote.
Out of all the lakes in the United States, and in the lower 48 states, there are estimated to be about 125,000 lakes that measure over 20 acres in size, two from Michigan made the list of the most beautiful in America. Let's face it these two super cool lakes totally rock...Lake Michigan and Lake Superior.
"Of course, no list would be complete without Lake Michigan! The only one of the Great Lakes entirely within the United States, this lake is the largest in the world that is contained in a single country", they wrote.
And the accolades for Lake Superior were just as fabulous saying,
"Lake Superior certainly lives up to its name: it’s the largest freshwater lake in the world. The lake covers 31,700 square miles and holds 10% of all the world’s fresh surface water.
With a lake this size, you could spend a lifetime exploring it and still have more to discover".
