Beloved Michigan Train Focus of Christmas Movie Filming in Owosso

Sure the Polar Express train from the classic Christmas movie may seem like it's just part of all the Hollywood magic, but Michiganders know differently.

Michigan's infamous Pere Marquette 1225, the North Pole Express itself, is set to "star" in an upcoming Christmas movie being filmed right here in mid-Michigan. The train was the inspiration for the popular holiday film The Polar Express and it is now returning to the big screen as the whimsical setting for the upcoming film called Christmas on The North Pole Express.

The movie which takes place on the legendary Pere Marquette 1225 is being filmed at the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso.  Producer and director Sam Logan Khaleghi told WILX that the movie Christmas on The North Pole Express is both a romantic comedy and tells the story of one woman’s journey to finding her sense of self again.

The movie features actors Brian Boynton and Marla Moore as the couple that meets on the north pole express, as Moore’s character is traveling to her sister’s Christmas wedding. Boynton said the location and the train just feel like Christmas.

“I don’t know, there’s something magical and nostalgic about a train and Christmas,” he told WILX. “They kind of go hand in hand in some ways. It’s just such an intimate environment, that you can see how a love could be sort of rekindled on a train.”

 

How You Can Be an Extra in Christmas on the North Pole Express
