The Detroit Lions are off to a hot start at 5-1 on the season. There are quite a few Lions in particular that have had a fabulous showing already. Quarterback Jared Goff has set passing records for the NFL record for most completions in a game without a miss during the Lions' Week 4 win over the Seattle Seahawks where he completed all 18 of his passes.

Recently, one Detroit Lion has become the highest graded player among all position groups in the entire NFL by PFF over the last two weeks. And it's not JG, despite him having an MVP-caliber season already.

How Do PFF Grades Work?

In short, the PFF grading system evaluates every player on every play during a football game, focusing on their contribution to production rather than just traits or measurable stats. Each player is graded on a scale from -2 to +2, with adjustments based on situational expectations. PFF employs a rigorous review process involving over 600 analysts, ensuring high-quality and unbiased evaluations. The grades are then converted to a 0-100 scale for easier comparisons, allowing for nuanced player rankings that consider both performance and context.

Detroit Lion Ranked Highest in All of NFL over Past Two Weeks

So who is the player that's been the best in the entire NFL through weeks 6 and 7? None other than second year safety Brian Branch. Branch had a 93.3 grade in week 6 (vs Cowboys), and a 92.7 grade in week 7 (vs Vikings).

Against the Cowboys, Branch recorded six combined tackles, two INTs, 47 YDS, and one forced fumble. In his latest showing against the Vikings, he recorded four tackles and one INT.

The most impressive part? Branch is new to the safety position. Before the 2024 season Branch was a nickel cornerback.

BB shares why the position works for him and breaks down interceptions on his birthday in an interview with Kay Adams, host of FanDuel's 'Up & Adams Show.'
