Detroit-Style Pizza Controversy: Why This Viral Recipe Is Sparking Debate
Before I jump into what's going on, let me make my thoughts very clear. Whether what I'm about to show you is Detroit-style or not, I am very pro-whatever it is.
Social media food influencer, Seoung Lee, known better as ChowDownDetroit, made a recent visit to Sterling Heights to test out a local restaurant, My Pizza Place. There, they serve a pie called "The Cheesy Detroiter." According to My Pizza Place's online menu, The Cheesy Detroiter is all new, and a "pizza revolution." That's because, unlike most Detroit-style pizzas, this one has cheese on the top, sides, and bottom.
This is what has started the great Detroit-style pizza debate. Many online commenters took issue with them calling it Detroit-style whilst adding a layer of mozzarella on the pan before the dough. But like I said, that to me, is perfection.
Seoung Lee's X (Twitter) video has racked up over 250,000 views and garnered plenty of comments.
Here are some X comments on both sides of the debate:
If it's wrong, I don't want to be right.
According to their menu, the Detroiter is $12.99 for four slices and one topping and $21.99 for eight slices.
