Lansing to Chicago Route Delay Pushes Back Michigan Travel Plans
That quick, easy, nonstop flight Lansing travelers were eyeing? It's taking a detour before it ever takes off. United Airlines has pushed back its planned nonstop service between Michigan's Lansing Capital Region International Airport (LAN) and Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD).

The route was set to launch on May 7 with four daily flights. Now, the new target date is October 25, 2026.
Why Michigan Flights to Chicago Are Being Delayed
Blame the summer squeeze. The Lansing State Journal reports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is temporarily limiting flights at O'Hare through late October to prevent widespread delays. With more than 3,000 flights expected on peak days, officials stepped in to keep things from completely unraveling.
When capacity gets tight, new routes are often the first to get bumped. Lansing's long-awaited nonstop landed squarely in that category.
What Lansing Travelers Can Expect Right Now
For the time being, nonstop flights are off the table. Travelers booking Lansing to Chicago can expect connecting flights, sometimes with multiple stops. United says affected passengers can rebook or request refunds.

It's not ideal, especially for a route that was supposed to provide a fast, direct link to one of the country's busiest travel hubs. Adding to the frustration is that this was part of United's return after leaving Lansing in 2022. The flights are still coming. Michigan travelers just have to wait a little longer before takeoff.
