Some people call this a 'mystical' or 'magical' spring...but I guess I just can't fathom what the 'mystery' or 'magic' is...it's just a spring to me.

In the town of Norway, wayyy up to the furthermost west end of the Upper Peninsula, is the Norway Spring. It sits off US-2 and continuously supplies amazingly fresh water for all who travel by.

Thanks to this spring, Norway won a 2006 Regional Water Taste-off and has the purest, best tasting water – probably in the whole U.P.? Just a guess.

From April 'til September the spring is open for anyone to come by, taste, fill your jugs, and maybe have a picnic at the little park. The well has been operating ever since iron ore miners drilled a 1,094-foot shaft in 1903. There was once a sawmill at this site which adds to the historical value of the spot.

Visitors have remarked how refreshing, tasty, clean, and crisp this water is...but I just don't get why it's referred to as being 'magical' or 'mystical'.....to me, it's a cool, historic spring that has stood the test of time and brings pleasure to all who come here. Come to think of it, maybe that's the magic part...because we could sure use some pleasure in the 2020s.

You'll find the spring along US-2 just northwest outside the town of Norway in Dickinson County.
