New Report Reveals Michigan’s Top 10 Consumer Complaints in 2025
Every year, thousands of Michigan residents file complaints when a purchase, service, or contract goes sideways. Sometimes it's a product that never arrives. How Many Complaints Michigan Received in 2025
According to the office of Michigan Attorney Dana Nessel, the Department's Consumer Protection Team received more than 12,000 written complaints in 2025. Those reports came from residents across the state dealing with everything from questionable services to purchases that didn't quite meet expectations.
How the Consumer Protection Team Investigates
The team works with organizations like the Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, and AARP to track scams, investigate complaints, and help educate consumers about emerging fraud trends.

Their work also puts real money back into Michiganders' pockets. In 2025, the Consumer Protection Team recovered about $1.88 million for Michigan residents and businesses through mediation, refunds, and settlements tied to consumer complaints.
That's a solid reminder that speaking up when something feels wrong can actually make a difference. Of course, complaints tend to follow patterns. Certain industries and services consistently generate more frustration than others. Some involve everyday purchases, while others revolve around services people rely on regularly.
