Crown is another Michigan Thumb community that never got a chance to become a hamlet, burg, or village, let alone a complete town.

Crown popped up in Huron County’s Meade Township when a post office was implemented on May 20, 1899. Other than the post office, this little crossroads out in the country also had a one-room schoolhouse and a general store.

It was the storekeeper, Lewis Mosey, who became Crown’s first postmaster until it closed for good on October 14, 1904. The Mosey family owned a few parcels of land in and around the downtown area, including the land which held the schoolhouse.

The township itself was named after Civil War hero, Gen. George Meade, in 1869.

There isn’t much to see here if you visit: no old buildings or shops, just the structure on the corner that looks like it was the old schoolhouse, now renovated into a residence. Crown doesn't even show up on maps anymore.
