Goodbye Monkey Mouth: Grand River Brewery Closes After 13 Years in Downtown Jackson
Jackson lost more than a restaurant on Sunday. It lost one of those places that had become part of downtown's comeback. Grand River Brewery served its final customers on September 13, 2026, after 13 years at 117 W. Louis Glick Highway.

The brewery said after months of efforts to keep the doors open, continuing simply wasn't possible. It did not pin the closure on a single culprit. According to MLive, Jackson was also home to the last Grand River Brewery location, after Marshall, Brighton, and Clawson all closed.
This One Feels Personal

I've eaten there plenty of times. I was even a Mug Club member, meaning somewhere along the line I willingly joined a beer-based fraternity with no hazing beyond deciding what to order. And I'm sincerely going to miss those pork nachos. They weren't an appetizer. They were a dietary support system involving pulled pork and queso.

Grand River mattered beyond the menu and taps. The brewery opened in 2013 in the former Kuhl's Bell Tower Market and helped turn a long-neglected downtown building into a gathering place. It hosted events, supported charities, and became part of Jackson's identity.
Jackson's One North Kitchen & Bar location even posted a public goodbye, while Nite Lite offered to honor Grand River Mug Club deals (be seeing you soon, Nite Lite).
What Could Replace Grand River Brewery?

So far, nobody has announced a successor. But a huge, recognizable downtown space already designed for food, drinks, events, and crowds is not exactly invisible real estate. Another restaurant? A new brewery? An entertainment-heavy concept?

That building has renovated itself before. Jackson, your move. I'll be over here... mourning the pork nachos.
