When was the last time you remember gas prices being UNDER a dollar?
Never?
Or yes, but you just can’t remember when it was?

After years of high fuel prices, only one time the price of gasoline zoomed down to under one dollar. During a gas war here in Michigan, gas station signs were seen with prices as low as 95 cents, 78 cents, and 77 cents. Sound too good to be true? Sound like it must have taken place back in the 1960s or 70s?

NOPE.

It was in January 2016 when Michigan became the first state to take gas prices under a dollar a gallon, the first time in many years, thanks to a local gas war.

Where did this gas war take place? At Houghton Lake in Roscommon County, and it lasted all weekend long. Rival gas stations lowered their prices from the (then) national gas price average of around $1.89 as they fought tooth and nail for customers.

NBC News even did a report on this war, stating one price was down as far as 47 cents. When the weekend was over, the prices skyrocketed back up into the $1.40-$1.50 range (oh, if only we had a gas war going on now).

If you know of any other time after 2016 when gas prices were under a buck, let us know!
