Ever Heard of ‘Sawmill City’? Better Yet, You Ever Been There?
Kimball is an area in St. Clair County that looks like it may have been a village at one point, but now there are just a few homes.
Kimball began around 1840 and was named after early settler John Kimball. When a post office was implemented in 1882, it was misspelled as ‘Kimbal’. That was corrected in 1889 and has remained ever since.....but the post office closed in 1908 and that was it for any future growth.
But a way north of Kimball is a fun place that seems to fly under the radar.

It’s Sawmill City, with enough attractions in this small space to accommodate the whole family. You’ll find bumper boats, mini-golf, train rides, water slide, go-karts, basketball, batting cages and many others. There is camping at KOA as well and Sawmill City will make for a good family getaway this year.
Located at 5055 Lapeer Road near Kimball, Sawmill City opened sometime in the late 1990s and still keeps going.
