Gone to Motel Heaven: Arbor Hills Motel, Jackson
Another of Jackson’s motels that has gone to Motel Heaven is the Arbor Hills Motel, once located at 3330 Spring Arbor Road.
Sitting one mile west of Jackson, Michigan, its description included “hot water heat – carpeting – tile baths – air conditioning – T.V. Open year round.”
The roadside sign was classic: 1940s-50s style with old fashioned lettering, a star, and the words “TV”, “No Vacancy”, and the “AAA” logo in neon.
Images of this place invoke classic Americana and Michigania. The exact opening and closing dates are unknown, but it was definitely demolished during or before 2005.
Even though the Arbor Hills Motel is gone, there are still a good number of these mid-20th Century motels open throughout the entire state. If you come across one on your next Michigan roadtrip, stay the night. You may never get another chance.
